Beskrivelse
Polish cinema has been central to the conference, held simultaneously with a review of new Polish cinema at the Danish Film Institute, while other Eastern and Central European film cultures provided a broader context and comparative background for the developments that have been taking place in the past decade within cinema of the former Eastern Bloc.
With the conference, an overview of and reflection on the essential themes, processes and developments within new Polish and other Eastern European cinema has been given. Significant questions have been discussed, such as: How relevant and scientifically beneficial is the notion of East-Central Europe in relation to the cinema of this area today? Should the concept merely be understood in terms of geography, or does it refer to a certain cultural, historical and political community? Should we talk about the cinema of East-Central Europe, or rather, the cinema from East-Central Europe? What elements could be regarded as indicative of a valid system of references and meanings in the cinema of East-Central Europe?
Publication of the conference papers is expected in 2013.
The conference was financed by FKK.
