    COURSE DESCRIPTION Date 24 January - 4 February 2011. Venue and organizers Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Morogoro, Tanzania. The course is jointly organised by SUA and Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Objective The main objective of this PhD course is to strengthen the capabilities of participants in relation to research planning, management and reporting in order to meet the organizational, logistic and scientific challenges associated with implementation of PhD projects. Duration and number of participants The duration of the course is 2 weeks and can accommodate up to 30 participants. Target group The course is targeted at graduates of Master level in biological disciplines, veterinary science, medicine and social science, who already or intend to pursue research training at PhD level or the equivalent. Participation is open to candidates from SUA, Danida financed students, ICONZ PhDs, and other related applicants. Priority will be given to applicants already enrolled in a PhD programme. Language All teaching is conducted in English, wherefore a sound knowledge of written and spoken English is required. Material Materials and articles to be used during the various modules will be handed out at the beginning of the course. We encourage participants to bring their own laptops. Certificate Certificates will be awarded by the end of the course. The course is registered in the University of Copenhagen course catalogue. Completion of the course awards 4 ECTS. Deadline for application: Wednesday 1st December 2010, 13.00 CET. Content The course combines lectures, seminars, group work, tutorials, demonstrations, and practical exercises both individually and in groups. The diverse educational and professional backgrounds of participants will allow development of cross-disciplinary group work and exchange of experience, thus facilitating the learning process. Much emphasis will be put on problem-oriented learning and the general well-being of the participants. Course programme and module description will follow. Course Fee There will be a course fee for attending the course. The fee reflects the actual cost encountered organizing the and running the course: hire of lecture rooms, local administration, course material, photocopying and catering (coffee tea breaks incl. snacks twice a day and lunch).
