Strategy roundtable discussion with Gergely Karácsony, Mayor of Budapest, and Garry Kasparov, Chairman of the Human Rights Foundation and chairman of Renew Democracy Initiative.
The event is co-organized by the City Diplomacy Unit at the Municipality of Budapest, Political Capital Institute and Human Rights Foundation.
The title of the discussion is: Resisting the pandemic power grab on the national and local level.
The issues that we would like to address during the debate:
Resistance to authoritarian pandemic power grab tendencies - examples from the United States, Hungary, Poland, and Belarus.
What can civil society and democratically elected leaders do to counterbalance authoritarian trends – on the national and local level?
What could be the long-lasting impact of COVID on democracies?
Can the pandemic have positive impacts on democratic movements and tendencies?
