“The cis-normative economy of concern. Discourses on medical care for trans-children in Denmark”

This presentation takes stock of current Danish healthcare professionals’ perceptions of what it means to be trans as expressed by these in Danish news media material from the 2019-2021. The statements given by health care professionals are found in the Danish media coverage of the medical treatment of transgender children/young people under the age of 18. Focusing on the apparent concern from healthcare professionals about the transgender boy influx to Danish Gender Identity Clinics we investigate the news media's framing of these concerns as well the affective logics of concern as expressed in articles and interviews with healthcare professionals working at the Clinics.
