Titel Trump is still irritated over the "purchase" of Greenland. Nobody here supports it, says an expert from the University of Copenhagen Grad af anerkendelse International Mediets navn/udløb Info.cz Medietype Internet Land/Område Danmark Dato 20/08/2019 Beskrivelse
US President Donald Trump took his European allies by surprise when it became clear last week that he was considering a plan to buy Greenland from Denmark. "Greenland is a strategic place ... I'm just saying that a president who knows something about buying real estate wants to look at it," said his economic advisor Larry Kudlow. But in Europe, almost no one understands this. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederikson has described the idea as absurd, and it has been said from Greenland itself that "it is not for sale".
The Danish view of the matter is explained to INFO.CZ by political scientist Uffe Jakobsen, a Greenland specialist from the University of Copenhagen, in an interview with Rodos Milan.
Greenland is not for sale
Trump will have the opportunity to negotiate with the Danes already in September, when he is going to the Scandinavian country. But politicians are clear about it - Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has already told him that it is absolutely absurd to think of that. “The Governments of Denmark and Greenland agree that Greenland is not for sale. The United States already has a military base in Greenland, the Thule Air Base, which is part of the US-Danish Agreement. Any other US strategic use of Greenland would also have to be based on an agreement” according to political scientist Uffe Jakobsen, a Greenland specialist from the University of Copenhagen, in a interview by INFO.CZ.
One of Trump's arguments why Denmark could sell its autonomous territory is the money it puts into it every year. However, as the political scientist Jakobsen explains to INFO.CZ, the sum mentioned by Trump is important for both parties: “The annual contribution from the Danish government (and Danish taxpayers) to the Greenland government is about 4.6 billion Danish crowns and is based on the June 2009 Self Government Act. This allows Greenland to maintain a Scandinavian style social system. It then allows Denmark to act as an Arctic power, to have access to the Arctic Council, etc. Without Greenland as a constituent part of the Kingdom of Denmark, Denmark would not be able to enter into partnerships with states such as the USA, Canada and Russia.”Producer/forfatter Milan Rokos URL https://www.info.cz/svet/trumpa-stale-drazdi-nakup-gronska-nikdo-to-tu-nepodporuje-rika-expert-z-kodanske-univerzity-42651.html Personer Uffe Jakobsen, Rokos Milan
