Kort præsentation

Current project (postdoc)

Based on unique registry data on library loans for the entire Danish population, I study inequality in library usage and litterary prefences. For example, in an in-progess study, I and co-authors use detailed information on the genre and author of books to study elite litterary tastes. Preliminary results indicate that while highly educated and very high wealth individuals prefer more highbrow books, this is not the case for individuals who have high occupational status (ISEI) or high income. In another in-progress study, I use information on the roll out of a libary book giveaway program to study whether municipalities can "nudge" parents to increase their investments in children's learning environment (in this case borrow more children's books from public libraries). The project is funded by Spar Nord Fonden (PI: Mads Meier Jæger).

Previous project(s)

In my Ph.d. project (2018-2021), I used quantitative methods to study how family and social background shape inequality in children's reading. For example, I used Danish library registry data to study inequality in the quality and quantity of children's books families take out, and how inequality in takeout of E-books developed during the first Covid-19 lockdown. Based on U.S. survey data, I showed how inequality in children's reading grows across childhood because the effect of (unequal) cultural inputs builds up as children age.
