My research focuses on authoritarian governance in China, intergovernmental relations within the Chinese party-state, and the relationship between state and society.

My main research topics include:

• Local and grassroots governance
• Urbanisation, migration, rural development, and land politics 
• The political economy of culture, propaganda and censorship

I am a steering group member of the Asian Dynamics Initiative at the University of Copenhagen, and the editor-in-chief of The Copenhagen Journal of Asian Studies.

I am an elected member of the Faculty of Humanities' PhD Committee, and are a member of the Research Committee at ToRS.

Undervisnings- og vejledningsområder

In my courses, I use social science theories and methods to explore different aspects of China's political system, governance, political economy, and social change. I regularly teach the BA course "Politics/The Political Economy of Contemporary China" at KU and CBS, as well as China-related modules on the MA "Asian Studies".
