Kort præsentation

The use of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in forensic genetics has proven to be an important tool in the analysis of trace samples where nuclear DNA is degraded and/or present in low amounts. However, the interpretation and reporting of mtDNA still face challenges, particularly regarding inclusion/exclusion scenarios in inclusive cases and the reporting of heteroplasmy. With the emergence of massively parallel sequencing and shotgun sequencing, the threshold for detecting and reporting mtDNA heteroplasmy is changing and becoming more sensitive. My work focuses on enhancing the implementation of mtDNA in forensic casework.
