Jens Juul Holst er professor på Biomedicinsk Institut og samtidig tilknyttet Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research. Jens Juul Holst forsker i appetitregulering og hormoner, der regulerer stofskiftet (fordøjelsen).

Jens leder en forskningsgruppe, der forsker i fedme og type 2 diabetes, især med henblik på opklaringen af hormonale forstyrrelser og mulighederne for behandling baseret på hormoner. Han har endvidere været med til at udvikle en lang række præparater til brug i behandlingen af type2-diabetes.

Jens er medstifter af start-up virksomheder, herunder Antag Therapeutics og Bainan Biotech. BMI samarbejder med Antag Therapeutics og Bainan Biotech omkring forskellige forskningsprojekter med det formål at opnå ny viden, der kan bruges i forebyggelse og behandling af sygdomme.
