I have a strong scientific interest in production animal welfare. I seek to combine my clinical expertise with other aspects such as pathology, veterinary jurisprudence, ethology, and social science in an effort to generate applicable scientific results.

I have worked with animal transport for several years. Annually, billions of animals are transported globally, and Denmark is one of the largest exporters of live animals within the EU. It is widely accepted that transport can have negative animal welfare consequences, yet animal transport is still an understudied topic. My work continues to add to the body of scientific evidence that transport legislation is based on and thereby contribute to better welfare for animals during transport.

A more recent scientific focus is cow-calf-contact (CCC) in dairy farming. It is evident that innovative methods of dairy farming are needed in the near future, and work from our research group focusing on health and disease in dairy herds practicing CCC is already attracting attention.

My collaborations include many different professionals and stakeholders both from academia and outside academia e.g. veterinarians, biologists, agronomists, and lawyers, farmers, livestock drivers, veterinary authorities, and lobbyists.

I am exceptionally strong within science communication and public outreach and have among other things participated in numerous tv and radio programs. In 2022 I was chosen by the Danish Royal Danish Academy for Sciences and Letters to participate in a year-long special scientific communication course and was in 2023 nominated for the Annual Communication Award at the veterinary departments at UCPH.
