Kort præsentation

My research spans film studies and creative media industry studies. Prior to starting my academic career at the University of Copenhagen in 2015, I worked for several public film agencies, film production companies and professional organizations for audiovisual workers accorss Europe. This link with various stakeholders in the European film industry shaped my methodological approach to research in audiovisual policy and production practices. My industrial background gives me access to exclusive data and expertise, and my research results inform both scholars and industry professionals. Among my publications are various academic pieces (e.g., the book European Film and Television Co-production: Policy and Practice) as well as industry reports. Since 2019, I've also participated to the development of several audiovisual policies at both the national and European levels.

Primære forskningsområder

My research focuses on the production and global reception of distinctly European audiovisual content, bridging the gap between classic film studies and creative media industries studies. What happens to the contentious notion of European cinema in the age of streaming and heightened audience fragmentation? How can European films and TV series become more globally competitive while maintaining their distinctive style, form, and ideology? Are European films worth the massive public subsidies earmarked for their production?

To address the aforementioned questions, I conduct research into two specific production and audience-development models that I see as the most instrumental in increasing the impact of European audiovisual works: international co-production and audience design. I map, examine, and theorize various forms of co-production and audience-design practices, as well as engage in policy discussions and proposals for further progress and integration of these activities within the European system of public film funding.

Aktuel forskning

I am now working on a monograph exploring the regulatory and audience challenges that European film and television co-productions face in the streaming era. The monograph is based on research I undertook over the last decade as a member of two independent research projects (RYA and KREAS), as well as in close collaboration with four film and television industry partners (Film i Väst, European Writers Club, TorinoFilmLab, and MEDICI).

I am also the director of the research project SCREENING EUROPE - The State of Polycrisis in the European Audiovisual Industry

Undervisnings- og vejledningsområder

At the University of Copenhagen, I created the MA course "Contemporary European Film and Television" and have taught the BA course "Introduction to Film and Media Studies" as well as the MA course "Creative Film and Television Industries and Digital Storytelling" on a regular basis. In addition, I have supervised a number of BA and MA theses in the following areas: audiovisual policy, film distribution, film marketing, co-production, green filmmaking, creativity theory and creative collaboration, Danish cinema, and young audiences.

Since 2022, I have also been part of the MA program in Cinema and Audiovisual Management at the University of Bologna where I teach the course in European co-production and public film funding. In addition, I am a regular guest lecturer in film literacy at the University College Sjælland.
