Kort præsentation

Most of my previous research has centered on antimicrobial resistance in animals, including surveillance, zoonotic transmission, dissemination and characterization of resistance determinants, and selection of resistance following antimicrobial treatment. Recently, my focus has gradually changed towards rationalization of veterinary antimicrobial treatment through development of antibiotic treatment guidelines and research into novel treatment regimes, alternative antimicrobial agents (e.g. peptides), vaccination, and optimization of diagnostic tests. Some examples of my ongoing work, management, and honorary office:

  • Editor and author of the Danish guide for rational use of antibiotics in companion animals.
  • Chair of the EUCAST subcommittee VetCAST (Veterinary committee on antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Head of the local microbiology diagnostic laboratory Sund Vet Diagnostik.
  • Main proposer of the COST Action ENOVAT (European Network for Optimization of Veterinary Antimicrobial Treatment).
  • PI of two clinical trials aiming to optimize antimicrobial treatment length of canine pyoderma and cystitis, respectively.
  • PI of a project aiming to vaccinate dogs against otitis externa caused by Pseudonomas aeruginosa.
  • PI of a project aiming to optimize antibiotic dosages and developing clinical breakpoints for mink.
  • Teacher of several under- and postgraduate courses, primarily on veterinary microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, diagnostics, and antimicrobial treatment.
