The overall aim of the PhD project is to identify root and/or shoot traits that confer tolerance to abiotic stress with emphasis on flood and salinity tolerance in rice. It is hypothesized that some wild species hold useful traits that confer tolerance to abiotic stress;
traits that subsequently can be used to improve modern cultivars of rice. The project will use key species of wild rice as inspiration of what is possible in wild species that have not undergone pressure from human selection.
