I hold a BSc and MSc in Molecular Biomedicine, and a PhD in Host-Microbe Interactions in the context of Immunometabolic Diseases. Currently I am working as a Postdoc Jensen Group – Nutritional Immunology trying to advance our understanding of host-microbe-immune interactions. To this end, I am actively trying to explore how microbes can tranverse the gut barrier into circulation and cause extraintestinal inflammation - as is the case with metabolic liver disease - and how the immune system of our gut communicates with peripheral organs such as the lungs and brain.
As a researcher driven by scientific integrity, attention to detail, and goal-oriented curiosity, I am passionate about understanding the relationship between host and microbe shape health and disease. My work centers on designing clinically relevant animal models that mirror human physiology and pathology - bridging the gap between mechanistic insight and translational relevance - while validating findings in human cohorts.
With extensive experience in in vivo experimentation, I focus on the complex interplay between the gut microbiota and host, across key biological axes (gut-liver, gut-lung, and gut-brain) and my current projects revolve around how these connections influence immunometabolic, immune-mediated, and neurodegenerative diseases. I combine mechanistic models, advanced imaging, and human biopsies samples to dissect these relationships and explore how we can modulate them for therapeutic gain. With several patents in this space, I am constantly looking for innovative angles to research, that one day can benefit patients and society. I am working in close collaborations with various academic and industrial partners from Denmark and abroad, and I have spent time in Hong Kong and Canada conducting research.
Beyond the lab, I am an active member of the Copenhagen Gut Microbiome Hub’s Early Career Researcher Team, fostering collaboration among young scientists in the microbiome field. I am also a board member and Head of the Outreach Team in the University of Copenhagen Association for Postdocs and PhD Students (UCAPS), where I oversee a bright team focusing on raising visibility and engagement around career development, advocacy, and community-building initiatives for PhDs and Postdocs across all university faculties.
