Broadly, I am interested in the following research areas: law and politics in China, public policy, policy implementation, central-local relations, and internet governance in China. 

The title of my current research project is: Decoding China’s Party-State: Insights from Local Government Fiscal Spending. The project is funded by S.C. Van Fonden.

Short description of the current project:

This project will compile and utilize a unique data source to assess the changes in China's Party-state at sub-national levels, specifically the fiscal spending published by each level of government. Guided by the Ministry of Finance, the annual fiscal spending report includes detailed expenditure items on fiscal transfers from higher-level governments to lower-level governments, the Party’s spending items, and spending on different policy areas. These data will help investigate intergovernmental relations, Party-state relations, and the degree of policy shift from economic development to security at sub-national levels.
