Zuzanna Godzimirska

Zuzanna is Associate Professor in Human Rights and International Institutions and PhD Coordinator at the Faculty of Law. She holds a Master of Laws from the University of Oslo, and a PhD from iCourts, Centre of Excellence for International Courts at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen.

In 2024 she received the Independent Research Fund Denmark's Inge Lehmann and Carlsberg Semper Ardens Accelerate grants in support of her research project 'AMICI - Amici Curiae in International Human Rights Courts.' The project runs from 2025-2029 and studies the role and impact of third-party interveners before the European Court of Human Rights and the UN Treaty Bodies.  

Zuzanna's research is predominantly empirical and interdisciplinary in nature. It draws on insights from International Law, International Relations and Linguistics, and adopts a variety of methods, including discourse analysis, various text analytical methods, and interviews. Her previous research has focused on (de)legitimation and trust in international courts, and the evolution of concepts in international criminal law and has appeared in the European Journal of International Law, Vanderbilt Journal of Transantional Law, Nordic Journal of Human Rights, Journal of International Criminal Justice, Journal of International Dispute Settlement, New York Journal of International Law and Politics and Human Rights Quarterly, amongst others.

In addition to her research, Zuzanna is managing editor of the Nordic Journal of International Law, member of the Coordinating Committee of the European Society of International Law Interest Group on Social Sciences and International Law and co-organizer of iCourts' PhD Summer School and the PhD course on Social Science Methods for Interdisciplinary Legal Studies organized in collaboration with the Geneva Graduate Institute International Law Department and the Central European University Department of Legal Studies.

Together with Aysel Küçüksu, she spearheaded efforts to establish the first Danish database on the use of AI in the Danish public sector: offentlig-ai.dk. The project received funding from Copenhagen University, Illum Fondet and Dreyers Fond.

Zuzanna currently teaches Fundamental Rights (Individets Grundlæggende Rettigheder) and various PhD courses. She also supervises BA and Master theses in human rights and welcomes particularly students who would be interested in writing a thesis on third-party interventions in human rights courts under the AMICI research project.
