Abstract
There is a bidirectional association between epilepsy and depression and anxiety which are more prevalent in
temporal lobe epilepsy and medically intractable epilepsy and are underdiagnosed. Many factors determine the
occurrence of psychiatric symptoms. It is recommended that The Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory
for Epilepsy (NDDI-E) and Generalised Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7) are employed for screening. This
review finds that systematic screening should be routinely performed and treatment should be carried out in a
formalized collaboration between neurologist, psychiatrist and psychologist.
