The Commission may consultthe group on any matter relating to marine and fisheries biology, fishing gear technology, fisherieseconomics, fisheries governance, ecosystem effects of fisheries, aquaculture or similar disciplines.This report on the Economic Performance of the EU Aquaculture sector 2022 is the eighth report ofits kind produced for the sector and provides a comprehensive overview of the latest informationavailable on the production, economic value, structure and competitive performance of theaquaculture sector at the national and EU level. This report includes data for 2008 to 2020 andnowcasting for 2021. The data collected is reported by national totals and by segments divided onspecies. The EU aquaculture sector reached 1.2 million tonnes in sales volume and €3.9 billion inturnover, in 2020. The overall number of enterprise were estimated to 14 thousand, whereas thetotal number of employees reached 57 thousand in 2020. Compared to the last report, the sectorhas experienced a decrease in production, turnover and employment.The report furthermore contains three special chapters. One on the increasing Energy prices andits impact on the EU aquaculture sector, a chapter on the latest nowcast analysis, and finally achapter analysing the social data collected under EUMAP for the second time.
