Abstract

As war rages in Europe, it has become common to enumerate the many simultaneous crises currently occurring, many of them following in the wake of the war. These include crises related to the economy, migration flows, energy, climate, and eventually may possibly include a social and/or solidarity crisis. With that background, this chapter first touches upon some of the original manifestations of the concept of ‘European sovereignty’. The focus then turns to Danish developments regarding ‘sovereignty’ as an example of where at least some barriers to a strengthening of ‘European sovereignty’ may exist, since at least some Member States may be hesitant to see such a development. Finally, the chapter concludes by raising some other, more general points of concern.
