Abstract
The widespread use of English medium instruction (EMI) in Scandinavian countries has foregrounded the issue of how best to support a student population growing more and more diverse, not least in terms of needs for English language support. This chapter presents a telling case of an exchange student at a Danish university, who struggled with meeting the demands of academic writing in English and who found little support from a course in academic English intended to support students on exchange at the university. While the student portrait attests to the need for providing second language (L2) writing support for students in EMI, it also points to some of the complexities of catering for their needs.
