Abstract

The current guidelines for treating patients suffering from overdoses of beta-blockers or calcium antagonists are reviewed. In cases where a beta-bblocker-intoxicated patient does not respond to conventional therapy with pressor drugs, it is recommended to administer glucagon. If the patient is suffering from an overdose of calcium antagonists and refractory cardiac collapse, a high-dose glucose-insulin-potassium regime should be initiated.
