Abstract
The cross-border commuting of workers in the Sønderjylland–Schleswig region between Denmark and Germany is a common phenomenon. The region is characterised by a vibrant cross-border labour movement, with 13 273 cross-border commuters in 2022. Of these, the vast majority commute from Germany to Denmark. However, differing tax deduction regulations for pensions in Germany and Denmark have a negative impact on pension plans, specifically concerning private pensions and the tax deductibility of private pension contributions for German commuters. To combat this, the Regionskontor & Infocenter for the Sønderjylland–Schleswig region1 was established to provide guidance and consulting to cross-border commuters, businesses providing related services and all people who wish to exercise their right to free mobility.
