Abstract
The article illustrates the missing balance of male and female authors in archaeological journals and edited books. The (small) development towards a more balanced authorship is presented and the relationship between the gender of the editors and the gender balance of authors is discussed. I connect the difference between downloaded and referenced articles in some of these journals with the general question of a balanced gender representation.
