Abstract

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a serious condition with infection of the muscular fascia causing rapidly spreading necrosis. NF rarely affects children, and we here report two paediatric cases of NF. The first developed NF after a joint puncture, the other after surgical extirpation of a lymph node. Both were treated with antibiotics, human immunoglobulin, hyperbaric oxygen and repeated surgery and survived. In contrast to adults, children with NF often have no underlying chronic illness. The most frequent access point is varicella zoster ulcers.
