Abstract
The chapter begins with a description of philosophical perspectives of the major paradigms which form the basis for pharmacy practice research (PPR). Arguments for and descriptions and examples of theories used in PPR form the body of the chapter. These theories include: behavioral change, patient safety, learning, patient-pharmacist interaction, GP-pharmacist collaboration, organization, technology, and political science. The chapter concludes with a look into the PPR crystal ball, describing drivers of change and future trends in pharmacy, followed by theories which will provide a framework for understanding these trends.
