Afhandlingen omhandler forskellige forståelser af civilsamfund blandt civilsamfundsaktivister i Tyrkiet, og hvorledes disse forståelser formes. Afhandlingen er et antropologisk bidrag til studier af civilsamfund generelt og til studier af politisk kultur i Tyrkiet.
