Abstract

Open surgical repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is becoming increasingly rare in the current endovascular era. This poses challenges for vascular surgical trainees who need to learn the procedure, should be equipped with various techniques, and know tricks for an infrarenal aortic anastomosis to deal with different scenarios that may arise during surgery.
1
This edutorial describes the technique of proximal anastomosis in infrarenal open AAA repair, and challenges one of the dogmas in vascular surgery: that an artery should always be sutured inside outside. It is recommended that trainees know about the different techniques so they can be adjusted depending on the situation.
