Abstract
Film historians agree that the first public presentation in Denmark of moving images on a screen took place on 7 June 1896. Using this show as a jumping-off point, we will dive into the minutiae of the earliest parts of Danish film history, but the article will also illustrate the process of film-historical research. The article is also a tribute to the work of Marguerite Engberg, the doyenne of Danish film historians, who passed away on 26 December 2021 at the age of 102.
