Amin Doostmohammadi is an Associate Professor of Physics at the Niels Bohr Institute and is the leader of the Active Intelligent Matter Research Group. Previously he held a prestigious Novo Nordisk Foundation Assistant Professorship at the Niels Bohr Institute.            

Amin works at the exciting interface between physics and biology, modeling systems as diverse as swimming bacteria, molecular motors and tissue dynamics. His work has been featured in Nature New & Views, ScienceNews, and in several media outlets including Daily Mail, Wired Magazine, and Popular Science. Before joining NBI, Amin held a highly prestigious Royal 1851 Research Fellowship at Oxford University's Rudolph Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics.

Amin is a recepeint of several large grants including Villum Young Investigaor Award, Novo Nordisk's New Exploratory Research and Development (NERD) Award, and ERC Starting Grant.

In 2021, Amin was named the recepeint of the Young Scientist Prize and Medal in Biological Phyiscs from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) "for his groundbreaking contributions applying the concepts of active matter physics and topological defects in biological contexts.”
