Cornelius Wiesener is a tenure-track assistant professor at iCourts. His research and teaching is in the field of human rights and international law, with a special focus on military operations and questions of national security.

Cornelius holds a B.A. in International Relations from Dresden and two LL.M. degrees from NUI Galway and the EUI in Florence. His Ph.D. – supervised by Prof. Martin Scheinin and defended at the EUI in 2015 – examined the application and interplay of humanitarian law and human rights law in peace operations, with a particular focus on the use of force.

Throughout his career, Cornelius was affiliated with a broad range of different institutions, including the Royal Danish Defence College, the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict in Bochum, the Amsterdam Centre for International Law, as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
