b. 1953, Professor of Early Modern History since 2002. Before that associate professor of history, associate professor of humanist informatics, assistant professor of humanist informatics, research fellow in history, all at the University of Copenhagen.

Member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, The Royal Danish Society for Danish History, The Society for the Publication of Sources to the History of Denmark,  etc.

Current research

Owning, wearing, using weapons in Europe, 1500-2000.

Primary fields of research

Danish and European history 1600-1800. War, war experiences, military and civilians as social and cultural groups. Social elites and power elites. State formation processes.

Teaching

Dansk og europæisk historie 1500-1900. Især:

  • Krig, militær og samfund i nyere tids Europa
  • Bevæbning og vold i det civile samfund.
  • Magtrelationer, adel, overklasse, sociale eliter
  • Sociale netværk, patron-klientforhold, prosopografi,
  • Statsdannelsesprocesser
  • Statsforvaltning
  • Danmark i 16- og 1700-tallet
  • Europa som kulturel enhed, europæisering.
  • Nationale og andre identiteter, især de førmoderne.
  • Sociologisk og økonomisk teori i historisk forskning
  • IT og historie. Især databaser og andre former for bearbejdning af primært materiale.
