Short presentation

My PhD project seeks to investigate the increased tourism on the Faroe Islands from a sociolinguistic perspective. The overall purpose is to examine tourism and the accompanying globalisation and influence from English language, the changes this leads to in the society, and what role language plays in the tourism industry, i.a. to create authenticity and value for tourists. My project will consist of 3 empirical studies; a study of the linguistic landscapes of popular cities and tourist sites on the Faroe Islands; ethnographic observations of tourist-host interaction; and a study of online destination branding of the Faroe Islands.

I am part of the research group Sprog og samfund (Language and Society).
