Short presentation

Hannes is group leader at the Globe Institute. His research interests focus primarily on the use of ancient genomics to explore past population histories and the spread and evolution of infectious diseases. He has a DPhil in archaeology from the University of Oxford (2009) and started his own research group at the University of Copenhagen in 2017. Since then, he has led several large research projects and his research has been published in Nature, Science, and PNAS. Together with Mikkel Nørtoft he developed the Ancient Genome Atlas, and currently he heads the ERC Consolidator Project AlpGen which focuses on the population history of the circum-Alpine region between 4000-600 BCE. He is also head of section for the Section for Molecular Ecology and Evolution and a founding member of the School of Archaeology at the University of Copenhagen.
