Forest pathologist, Ph.D. Iben Margrete Thomsen is employed as senior adviser at Department of Geosciences and Nature Resource Management, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen.

Her main responsibilities are fungal diseases and abiotic factors which damage trees in forestry, landscape, Christmas tree production, and urban environments (park and street trees), and she is responsible for the Danish forest health monitoring.

Specific fields of interest include Chalara ash dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus), Heterobasidion annosum and Armillaria root rot, Amylostereum sp. and woodwasps (Sirex sp. and Urocerus sp.), Neonectria neomacrospora canker of fir (Abies), Pucciniastrum epilobii rust on Nordmann fir, Hazard trees in urban settings, Current Season Needle Necrosis (CSNN) and Sydowia polyspora on Abies.
