Short biography

Jens Erik Mogensen is an Associate Professor of German Linguistics at the University of Copenhagen, with a research profile spanning language, culture, and society. His work brings together historical and contemporary approaches to German linguistics, encompassing grammar, phonetics, orthography, and lexicography, as well as language contact, multilingualism, and language policy, with a particular focus on standardisation, the societal role of language, and the interaction between language and culture.

Alongside his scholarly work, he has extensive experience in academic leadership and governance. He has held senior faculty leadership roles for approximately a decade as Associate Dean (Education) and Acting Dean at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen, and for a further decade as Head of Department (Chair). He is currently a board member of Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet), Norway.
