Short presentation

The research of Jes Jørgensen focuses on the formation of stars and planets. He is particularly interested in the physics and chemistry of the dust and gas around young stars – and for example works on establishing when protoplanetary disks give rise to planets and what their content are of complex organic molecules. In his research, Jes utilizes astronomical observations from large international facilities such as the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) amongst others.

Jes earned his Ph.D. degree from Leiden University in the Netherlands in 2004 and since worked at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, USA and Bonn University in Germany before he in 2010 returned to University of Copenhagen to a position as associate professor. In 2021 he was appointed as full professor of astrophysics at the Niels Bohr Institute.
