Short presentation

In addition to my responsibilities as information specialist, I am enrolled at the PhD School at the Faculty of Theology in the Department for Church History.

My project will be centered on the devotional literary activity of Jesper Rasmussen Brochmand (1585-1652) and its relation his dogmatic works. In the introductory dissertation to Brochmand's monumental dogmatics, Universæ Theologiæ Systema (1633), he establishes a definition of theology as both theoretical and practical. In my project I will examine if and how Brochmand realizes this definition in his literary activity. This demands an integrated reading of Universæ Theologiæ Systema and a selection of devotional works, such as It Christen Menniskis aandelige Kamp (1627), Gudelig Underuissning (1627) and the famous house postil Sabbati Sanctificatio (1635-38).

As part of the project I have also worked on a data set of texts from Early Modern Danish postils: https://github.com/DT-UCPH/early_modern_danish_postils
