Personal profile

Short presentation

My research group is focused on refinement of animal models, particularly in pain research. We are developing methods for recognition and assessment of pain and stress in laboratory rats and mice, as well as improved methods for anaesthesia and analgesia, surgery, blood sampling, and model induction in these species. The overall aim is to minimize any pain, distress or suffering in the animals, without negetively affecting the validity of the models. In addition, we are developing novel animal models for pain research by studying pain related mechansisms in animals such as testuidines and the naked mole rat.

Furthermore, I am in charge of a wide range of teaching and training activities in laboratory animal science and experimentation. I am thus involved in basic and continuing education of PhD-students, post-docs and other post-graduate academics; master students; technicians; animal caretakers; as well as animal caretaker trainees.
