I am an aquatic ecologists with a key interest in biodiversity aiming to elucidate how natural communities are assembled and with a strong focus on how they can be restored. To this end I study:

  • Historical changes in aquatic plant diversity as a consequence of global change
  • Biodiversity and distribution of aquatic plants and its relation to environmental conditions
  • Plant functional traits and community assembly
  • Restoration and re-establishment of freshwater ecosystems
