Short presentation

Main interests: clinical, epidemiological, genetic and neurobiological research in affective disorders within causes and treatment (depression, mania, bipolar disorder).

Primary fields of research

The main scientific aims are to investigate biological, including genetic, and psychological risk factors for onset, course and outcome in affective disorders as well as the effect of treatment in relation to these issues.
Further, research focuses on cognition and risk of dementia in affective disorder.
In an ongoing EU-project we have developed an App for electronic monitorering via mobile phones for use in bipolar disorder.

Scientific prizes

  • 2001 H. Nielsen´s prize as acknowledgement of research within the pathogenesis and understanding of affective disorders.
  • 2004 Eli og Egon Larsens Foundation prize as acknowledgement of quality assurance within clinical treatment and research in affective disorders.
  • 2010 NARSAD Bipolar Mood Disorder Prize (National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders). International price for “Outstanding Achievement in Bipolar Mood Disorder Research”.
