My research focuses on determinants of cardiometabolic disease to improve prevention and treatment, and I especially focus on vulnerable and understudied populations, where research is lacking. My main expertise is epigenetic mechanisms, and cardiometabolic health and disease. My studies integrate clinical, epidemiological, epigenetic, and bioinformatic approaches.

Principal investigator of Tanzanian birth cohort follow-up study (PONA2 study) of +600 children and mothers, exposed to anemia, malaria and diabetes during pregnancy, in Korogwe, Tanzania  (2019-).

Co-investigator on “EMPHASIS - Empowering Young Lives: Tackling Health Challenges Among School-Aged Children in Somaliland”. Supported by Danish foreign affairs ministry (DANIDA) (2025-).

Co-Principal Investigator on a research study in Kosovo, focusing on epigenetic changes in children of women with PTSD from the war in Kosovo.
