Between violence and care: The moral and ethical aftermaths of gender based violence
I am a social anthropologist currently employed as a PhD-fellow at the Velux funded research project AFTER THOUGHTS. I am conducting research on the moral and ethical aftermaths of violence for women staying at domestic violence shelters in Denmark.
Through ethnographic fieldwork, and a close dialogue between anthropology and philosophy, I am researching the ways in which violence lingers on within the women's everyday life at the shelter. My interlocutors have experienced gender based violence from either familial relations, intimate relations or both. I am interested in the ways in which violence and care have become folded into each other by these relations and out from these histories of violence, and which moral and ethical questions, dilemmas, potentialities or impossibilities the women now encounter during their stay at the shelter.
The project runs from August 2022 to August 2025.
My supervisor is Associate Professor Thomas Brudholm, and my co-supervisor is Dr Lotte Segal from The University of Edinburgh.
The project is based at Minority Studies.
