Short presentation

Mette Marie Staehr Harder's research falls within comparative politics and focuses on the parliamentary representation of Indigenous peoples, Greenland, and emotions in politics. She studies questions such as:

  • How are Greenland represented in the Danish parliament?
  • May Indigenous peoples be well-represented in second-nation parliaments? Should they? How?
  • How does the Danish parliament control the Danish Government?
  • What role does emotions play in politics?
  • How does the Danish Folketing work with political issues of gender equality?

Her article 'Pitkin's Second Way: Freeing Representation Theory from Identity', 56(1) won the Representation Best Paper Price 2020.

She is part of the EU-project ENCODE which studies the role of emotions in politics. From the Carlsberg Foundation, she recently received a grant for the project Metropolitan Parliamentary Representation. Here she will study how Greenland among other nations is represented in their metropolitan parliament.
