Short presentation

Mikkel Bring Christensen is a Clinical Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Bispebjerg og Frederiksberg. Since 2008 Mikkel Christensen have been an active researcher in topics relating to clinical metabolism, toxicology and pharmacology. The metabolic research has contributed significantly to understanding the clinical action of endogenous gut hormones and peptide-based therapeutics in relation to diabetes, postprandial metabolism, appetite regulation and glucose and bone homeostasis. Among other things the metabolic research led to a patent (WO2016034186A1) that is currently explored by Antag Therapeutics as treatment against obesity and other cardiometabolic disorders. Since 2013, Mikkel Christensen have described various aspects of medication overdoses and experimental treatment of medication poisonings, which directly have affected guidelines treating poisoned patients.

In 2016, Mikkel Christensen initiated the Polypharmacy Outpatient Clinic at Copenhagen University Hospital - Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg as part of a pragmatic complex intervention trial. The intervention reduced medication use, while improving survival and health-related quality of life and is now a specialised medical clinic at the hospital. Mikkel Christensen current research focused on promoting rational pharmacotherapy by describing diagnostic and therapeutic aspects in relation to patients with overdoses, chronic metabolic diseases and multimorbidity.
