Mikkel Herly graduated as a medical doctor in 2016 and as PhD in 2020 from University of Copenhagen. He is currently working as an associate professor at ISIM and as a medical doctor specializing in plastic surgery. His research focuses on the interaction between the immune system and implants in humans, with special emphasis on the role of low-virulent bacteria on the surface of implants in the development of adverse immune reactions. Mikkel Herly runs a research group between his position at University of Copenhagen and the Dept. of Plastic Surgery, Rigshospitalet. He is the principal investigator of several large clinical and translational research projects and he has received several research grants, including the Lundbeck Foundation Fellowship in 2023.
