Personal profile

Short presentation

My research is focused on the elucidation of the in vivo mechanism-of-action of GHB ligands. GHB (g-hydroxybutyric acid) is a proposed neuromodulator, but it is also known as the drug of abuse Fantasy and the clinically prescribed drug Xyrem for the treatment of narcolepsy. Pre-clinical studies showed a neuroprotective effect of GHB ligands in acute brain injury. Therefore, my project is focussing studying the neuroprotective potential of GHB ligands by employing the model of photothrombotic stroke.
