Short presentation

My research focuses on the ecophysiology and bioengineering of photosynthetic microorganisms. These organisms comprise cyanobacteria, microalgae, and anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria. I investigate the mechanisms of photosynthesis, CO2 metabolism, and other metabolic strategies the organisms have evolved to survive in their environment.

I also explore how the activities and products of these photosynthetic microbes can be exploited for practical purposes, particularly in CO2 capture and biosynthesis of native and nonnative metabolites including pigments, sugars, and other compounds.

Our methodologies integrate genetic and physiological techniques with biochemical and molecular analyses, applied to both laboratory cultures and natural and engineered microbial communities.
