I am Professor of Intellectual History at the University of Copenhagen. My research focuses on political ideology, economic thought, and environmentalism in twentieth-century Europe and beyond. I have developed a strong international profile through research stays at leading institutions, including the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen, the European University Institute in Florence (EUI), the Cambridge Centre for Political Thought at the University of Cambridge, and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS).
I am the author of History in the Plural: An Introduction to Reinhart Koselleck (2012) and The Sovereign Consumer: A New Intellectual History of Neoliberalism (2018), both widely recognized as standard references in their respective fields. Recent work includes the co-authored Danish-language outreach book Vild vækst on contemporary growth debates. I am currently completing a new monograph, Market Repair: The Rise of Green Capitalism and Its Gurus.
I serve as Principal Investigator of Promises of Promethean Technologies: Historical Perspectives on Contemporary Danish Climate Politics (2024–27), funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark, in collaboration with postdoctoral researcher Sebastian Lundsteen Nielsen. I am also part of Neoliberalism in the Nordics, led by Professor Jenny Andersson (Uppsala University) and supported by the Swedish Riksbank until 2026, and affiliated with the Centre for Sustainable Futures at the Saxo Institute.
Recent appointments include fellow at the Nordic Humanities Center (UCPH, 2025), resident scholar at the Centre for Applied Ecological Thinking (UCPH, 2023), and Chair of the Centre of Modern European Studies at UCPH (2017–20). From 2019 to 2022, I directed the project Key Actors – Peopling the Neoliberal Economy, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark.
