Ole De Backer is a senior Consultant Interventional Cardiology at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen and a Full Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen. He graduated from the University of Ghent as a medical doctor (MD) in 2004 and earned his PhD in Pharmacology in 2009 and his Master in Business Administration at the Vlerick School in 2008. He is a board-certified specialist in Cardiology in Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.
In his clinical work, Prof. Dr. De Backer primarily takes care of patients with structural heart disease, aortic disease and atrial fibrillation. He has extensive expertise in transcatheter treatment of valvular heart disease, transcatheter closure of the left atrial appendage and patent foramen ovale and transcatheter endovascular aortic repair. Prof. Dr. De Backer's research is also primarily focused on the field of structural interventional cardiology. His areas of interest include the use of multimodality cardiac imaging in the pre-procedural, intra-procedural and post-procedural phase of structural heart interventions and the development of novel interventional techniques and technologies.
