Primary Fields of Research
My research focuses on how experiences of health and disease are understood and become meaningful to people, institutions, and the state. I am particularly interested in molecular understandings of life, datafication, uncertainty, disability, and the governance of health and disease in welfare states. My research is grounded in ethnographic fieldwork and analysis of empirical materials, and my analytical approach is informed by anthropology, philosophy, critical theory, and STS. Geographic areas of expertise: Denmark and the U.S.
About Me
I hold a PhD in sociocultural anthropology from Brandeis University and have a background in medical and moral anthropology. My dissertation research focused on families’ experiences of raising young children with Down syndrome in the Danish welfare state. Before becoming an anthropologist, I worked in documentary and commercial film.
